Why am I getting so little post engagement?

Facebook Business Pages have come a long way in a short space of time. When you cast your mind back to 2008 when we were just updating profile names pretending to be businesses, and now the business page itself acts as a browser-style site. Whether you are a small, medium, large or global business you will notice fluctuations in your post performance.

This is down to a few variables:

  • Season

  • Image Quality

  • Relevancy

  • Spam Factor

  • Time Posted

  • Grammar

There are more, but these are the ones we find are the top.

Think about what you are posting – if it’s summer, use bright images with lots of light and play on the way people are feeling. If it’s winter, go for something with a slightly more snuggly feel. Is it really all that relevant? We all have that one Aunt who puts those updates on ‘just done the ironing xx’, ‘still awake xx’, ‘weather is grim xx’. The real question here is, does anyone care?

Before you create a post to go out on your business page imagine you are the one sat in the comfort of your living room reading it. Do you have a valid point to make? Does it need to be said? Be careful not to over-post for fear of losing your engagement. A few well-planned posts can perform better than 30.

Timing is everything in life. If you are a beauty salon, then posting at 11pm probably isn’t going to work best. If you are a cocktail bar in London, then posting at 9am probably isn’t going to work best. Think about your audience and your industry, and then correlate this with the most logical times to post.

Short posts highlighting your USP, a high-quality image, and be sure to use a grammar checker if you aren’t confident.
